FAA is Starting to address the Regulations of UAV’s
Amazon is spending ~$10M/ yr to lobby the FFA to allow UAV’s into the National Airspace. This help along with the FAA working new regulation will allow UAV’s into the National Airspace in the coming years.
Autonomous Vehicle Technogies is Proven
Autonomous vehicle technology using GPS, ADS-B, Micro electronics, High frequency RADAR and advance communication systems
Technical Working Groups
NASA’s On-Demand-Mobility is a industry wide technical working group focused on implementing vehicle to address the future needs for mobility.
Missions
The future of small package delivery by VTOL aircraft will in the future, include passengers. Part of this evolution of using VTOL aircraft is the ability of these vehicles to also transition to ground transportation for the “last mile.” Many locations will limit the ability of landing a vehicle in extremely close quarters around buildings and residential areas due to noise, safety, or access. One way to enable fast transportation option in these areas is to have a VTOL or STOL airstrip in close proximity of the final destination and use the roads to go the final distance. These hybrid air and ground vehicles will enable a wider acceptance and access of fast package and passenger transportation options. The other advantage is using existing car parking facilities to house these vehicles and thus limit the land needed to facilitate a VTOL or STOL airstrip. These VTOL airstrips could be incorporated into green belt areas in residential areas and on top of parking garages in urban/metro areas or along highways/freeways at overpasses.
50% to 75% scales vehicle would deliver 6 - 10 location per mission
