2016 Electric Aircraft Symposium
Emerging Technologies – The Path to Early Market Opportunities
CAFE Foundation invites you to join your industry peers at our tenth Electric Aircraft Symposium on May 19th and 20th at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront.
At the Symposium on May 19, 2016, UNT’s Founder, Frank Taylor, will be presenting a paper on the “Next Ultimate Airspace”.
This paper presents the fully integrated Next Ultimate Airspace system that is scalable and functional beyond today’s conventional aircraft. It proposes to seamlessly integrate exotic aircraft of the future safely and more efficiently. Current predictions indicate that the conventional system is approaching its limit, requiring a revamp of the National Airspace System (NAS) by 2035. Further adding to the limits of the current NAS, companies like Amazon and Google are looking to implement fully autonomous delivery aircraft and commercial Uncrewed Air Vehicle (UAV) industry growth is on the brink of exploding. Portions of airspace not currently exploited will soon become crowded and without a scalable system, the future is limited. The proposed upgrades and changes to the NAS we present in this paper further define airspace classification beyond the current system and allow more types of vehicles to fly. The proposed system adds redundancy to the near-term NextGen system through new equipment requirements on both piloted and autonomous vehicles while leveraging presently available sources of connectivity. Overall, the Next Ultimate Airspace 2035 goal detailed here radically overhauls the current NAS, implementing technology in new, innovative ways to expand the sky to users of all kinds
